HOW I TEACH

My approach is simple and calm. I believe everyone learns differently, so lessons are shaped around the individual rather than following a fixed formula.

With over 20 years of teaching and performance experience, I've taught hundreds of students from teenagers to adults, including beginners, re-starters and more experienced players. Over the years I've learnt how to recognise how each student learns best, often finding this out quite early in our lessons. I think that's one of the secrets to helping people progress with confidence.

I also hold an up-to-date enhanced DBS certificate.

SONGWRITING/COMPOSITION

If you are a budding songwriter, composer, or electronic dance music creator I can help with fresh ideas for bringing out your individual musical vision.

By using screen-share I can help with many DAWs including Cubase & Logic. And also notation software such as Sibelius and Musescore. I’ve found that many students of all ages are interested in this.

A few things you might not know

Both of my piano teachers have independently traced their teaching lineage back to J.S. Bach. And so, therefore, can all of my pupils!

I've been fortunate to have had two very inspirational piano teachers, Dr Kim Burwell and Lord Gawain Douglas, who have both influenced me greatly. I was also mentored in composition, conducting and orchestration by Dr Paul Max Edlin, and had many tutorials with the composer Prof. Paul Patterson of the Royal College of Music.

I've played in many venues and festivals around the world, and have performed on BBC1 and Sky News

For five years I was the lead piano tutor at Folkestone Academy. At the end of 2018, I moved to East Sussex to establish my own private piano tuition school.
